The AIRFLOW® CLASSIC sodium bicarbonate powder has just been revamped with a new formula: the COMFORT. The granule-metric size has been reduced by almost 40% for maximum patient comfort, going from 65 µm to 40 µm. FAQ

What does the AIRFLOW® PLUS Powder contain? Are the ingredients safe ?

PLUS Powder contains 3 main ingredients:

• CHX or CPC only in Japan & US
• Amorphous silica
• Erythritol

The CHX or CPC is added only as a preservative to store the powder and keep it free from contamination. The silica added is amorphous and safe as proven by various studies. Erythritol is the main ingredient which is not only anti-microbial but the no. 1 anti-cariogenic material available today.

What is AIR-FLOWING®? How is it different than Air polishing?

AIR-FLOWING® = excellence in Air polishing. AIR-FLOWING® is the terminology introduced in 2021 (Article Dr. Donnet et al, 2021). AIR-FLOWING® and Air polishing are based on the same principal (air, powder, water). AIR-FLOWING® is the synergy of the AFPM or the GBT machine, AIRFLOW and PERIOFLOW handpieces and fine, versatile and highly comfortable Erythritol(14µ) PLUS powder.

Can AIRFLOW® PLUS powder be used on children?

For children, AIR-FLOWING® is recommended above the age of 2 years. This recommendation is due to the limited mouth opening. On children it is recommended to use only AIR-FLOW® powders PERIO and PLUS.

Can one use AIR-FLOWING® in all clinical scenarios and age groups?

Yes. AIR-FLOWING® with PLUS powder can be used in children, adults, geriatrics, patients with orthodontics, periodontal, peri-implant disease patients, patients with caries and medically compromised patients. PLUS powder is safe to be used in children above the age of 2 years as long as all the recommendations of use are followed.

How long does the AIRFLOW® PLUS Powder take to dissolve in deep pockets, if it remains during the use of PERIOFLOW?

If used with 100% water as recommended, the AIRFLOW® PLUS powder residues never remain in the periodontal pocket. Even If potential residues of AIRFLOW® PLUS POWDER remain in periodontal pockets, the AIRFLOW® PLUS powder is biocompatible.

Can we use AIRFLOW® PLUS powder in patients who are lactose intolerant or glucose intolerant?

YES, AIRFLOW® PLUS powder can be used in these patients.

Why no more polishing and less hand instruments?

The use of abrasive polishing pastes with rubber cups and/or brushes leads to loss of dentin and erosion, as well as flattening of the enamel prisms over a period of time. Use of hand instruments results in irreversible loss of cementum and dentine, as well as soft tissue injury, recession, exposed root surfaces with hypersensitivity and enamel injury (scratches). AIR-FLOWING® with PLUS Powder preserves the integrity of composite, ceramic and gold restorations when compared to rubber cups. After GBT treatment, the biofilm and calculus are completely removed, the tooth surfaces are perfectly clean, and the natural structure of the tooth substances is preserved. Polishing with rubber cups creates smear layers and has no additional value, and is therefore unnecessary!
