Mathieu Needle Holders also known as Mathieu Pliers or Mathieu Needle Drivers are used to hold a suturing needle during suturing and surgical procedures. These needle holders have pliers handle, a leaf spring and ratchet at the bottom. The ratchet can have 2 steps lock or 3 steps lock. The Mathieu needle holder can be locked and unlocked by squeezing the handles. Multi-position ratchet provides controlled grip pressure and smooth grip release.

The tip of the Mathieu Plier is slightly tapered, wide at the bottom but less wide at the tip end. Mathieu Needle Holders are available with cross-serrations on the entire tip and with Tungsten Carbide inserted tips. Recommended suture sizes are 1-0, 2-0, 3-0, 4-0.

The Mathieu Needle Holder is particularly well suited for placing ligatures on the direct surface of the operating field. This needle holder allows you to tension and relax the needle with one hand thanks to its spring-loaded handle. In the case of a longer ligature, it is therefore largely possible to dispense with reaching around.
